The G-virus is a very mysterious agent. It was created by William Birkin in Raccoon City, and was his life's work. Because of Birkin and Wesker's initial research into Ebola and the Filiviridae, it is probable that the G-virus is in the same viral family as Ebola, Marburg and the T-virus. The G-virus shows the same necrotic process that the T-virus has, although its mutations are far more extreme and rapid when injected into a live subject. The G-virus is superior to the T-virus as a bioweapon agent.

This was shown when William Birkin injected himself as he was dying after the Umbrella SWAT salvage unit, led by Hunk, retrieved some G-virus samples. Birkin rapidly mutated into various forms, the instability of the G-virus outshining that of the T-virus. Wesker obtained the G-virus data from Birkin's corpse after Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy disposed of him. Sherry Birkin was also implanted with a G-virus embryo by her father, but was cured, although there is mystery surrounding her.

Because the G-virus wasn't allowed to spread with the same widespread outbreaks as the T-virus, its full nature is still unknown. Both Umbrella and HCF now have G-virus data, but it is not known what will come of this. The G-virus's initial origins came from the test subject, Lisa Trevor, in the Arklay Facility hidden within the Spencer Mansion.
